Situated between the Villages of Peyia, Pano Arodes, Giolou, Stroumpi and
Akoursos the picturesque Village of Kathikas with its 400 inhabitants is one
of Paphos' most famous wine making villages. It's wines were said to have
been exported to the Faroes of Egypt and its white grapes variety of
Xynesteri is renowned. The large Church of Evangelistria, deticated to the
Blessed Virgin Mary was built in 1870 to the south of which can still be
traced the ground plan of an ancient chapel of St. Epatios. Those who are
lame must walk or crawl three times round the chapel invoking the name of
the Saint: the last recorded cure was in 1930.
Today the Village of Kathikas has four restaurants, namely Araouzos
Tavern, Imogen's Inn, FarmYard Tavern and one of the very first in the
area Kyparissos Tavern. It has two Wineries, K & K Winery Kathikas
Ltd and the Sterna Winery and a number of Apartments for letting.
There are banking and travel facilities. It's climate is unique in the area
especially in the summer. Additionally to grapes, Kathikas Village
produces apples, cherries, apricots, nectarines etc.
